About Me

I am a husband of over 35 years to Lori and dad to three grown kids-Daniel, Andrew, and Becca. I love to read, write, play guitar, watch the birds in my backyard, and encourage churches and believers in Jesus Christ to faithfully run their race. I graduated from Milligan College and Emmanuel Christian Seminary of Milligan College. For over 20 years I was the Senior Pastor of First Church of Christ in Owosso, MI.   Prior to that I ministered for nearly 10 years in the Northwest Indiana.  I Have been an intentional Christ follower since 1985 when, as a freshman at Indiana University, I answered His call to pursue ministry. I have imperfectly but sincerely tried to do my best to follow in His footsteps. I am so thankful for His love and grace when I have failed.

In October of 2023 I stepped down from full time ministry after over 30 years. We executed a successful transition plan in which I passed the baton to my successor. My goal and desire in this next phase of my ministry and life is to help churches in the form of encouragement, pulpit supply, and short interim ministries. For more information on this please click here. I also am writing on my site to share my thoughts on a variety of things relating to faithfully living as Christ’s ambassadors in our time.  I believe that in some matters of faith and life there is room for Christians to agree to disagree. These things have historically been labelled as the “adiaphora” or disputable matters. In these matters (which I’ll try to label as such if I talk about them) there might be differences of opinion within our church community.  And that’s okay. There are many things in Christian faith, belief, and practice that are not disputable. Most of the Bible is pretty clear in meaning and intent.  But in some other areas a difference of opinions are okay.  I am fairly decided on the things I write about, but as the tagline to this blog says, I am an imperfect disciple still growing and learning.

Also, I do not have the opportunity on most of my posts for comments. I just don’t want to engage in a discussion that way. However, I’m always eager to have respectful conversations with anyone who might want to discuss something further. You can email me at cjhiggins16@icloud.com. I have a Facebook page with stuff on it, though I haven’t been active in a long time on it.  Many of my sermons over the past several years can be found at the First Church of Christ website or YouTube channel.
